IE 6 was painful, but the compatibility problems it presented compared to IE 7 pale in comparison to the IE 8 to IE 9 chasm. How do I know if my IE or Windows is 32 or 64 bit? the McAfee firewall was blocking IE, I had to add the program to the list of approved applications and IE8 started started working... Everybody wants to blame it on firewalls, but my Windows Firewall has been disabled since the day I upgraded to XP, and I've never used a third party firewall.

Apparently the virus must have check the proxy box and perhaps put its web address in and that was why I could only go to their web page.
